BMW 330e recalls in Australia (2)
Every recall has a free fix at a dealer, so a recall doesn't rule a car out. Make sure each one was done: ask for the paperwork or enter the VIN at vehiclerecalls.gov.au.
- Fire risk Moisture can corrode the starter motor and short it, while driving or parked (fire risk). Starter replaced; park outside until then. (2015–20, REC-006668)
- Fire risk Particles in the high-voltage battery could short the cells when fully charged (fire risk). Battery checked; don't charge at a wallbox until then. (2020 (built Jan to Sep 2020), Recall, Oct 2020)
Battery and warranty
6 yrs / 100,000 km (drive battery; some listings say 8 yrs / 160,000 km, so check with BMW). The warranty runs from when the car was first sold, so a 2016 car has none left and a 2022 car about 2 years left. Hybrid batteries are small and usually last the life of the car, but ask whether the hybrid system has had any warnings, and check the service history. A Toyota hybrid battery costs about $2,500–$3,500 fitted: battery replacement costs.
Running costs
At 250 km a week with NSW prices, a 2020 on (G20) BMW 330e costs about $21 a week charged mostly at home, or $38 on public fast chargers.
